I stood there.
The chill in the air felt good even though I knew I was feeling and seeing a season passing. I had a lot on my mind. There were alot of questions, possibly too many. Everything was up for debate or at least renegotiation.
I felt her near me. I raised my glass and took a swallow of wine. I waited….and she said nothing. We just stood there.
“Dinner was good.” She said finally.
“I’m glad you liked it.” I answered.
More moments passed. The air was a bit colder and there was wood burning somewhere. An autumn smell. A month ago I would have lamented that….but not now.
“Don’t you want to know what I’m thinking about?” I asked. The sky was dark and moonless.
She sighed. “No. One of these days, you’ll let me in. Until then….”
She let that sentence trail off and disappear as she leaned into me.
